Foods you can Doctor Up

What is your favorite health food or recipe? I like to adjust some recipes so that they become healthier than the original. This may sound icky, but sometimes I sneak babyfood into sauces so I can hide vegetable goodness inside the kids’ supper.

I saw a “hamburger” recipe the other day in a video…. the gal put spicey canned Rotel tomatoes in some lean ground turky and made grilled patties. Do you think you would try this as a way to make a healthy burger? (assuming you eat meat).

I really enjoy potatoes baked and then dressed. To make these healthy, I have learned to do without so much greasy margerine in them and I use a little more low- or non-fat sour cream on top. I hardly even notice the lack of buttery thrills.

Sure, the potato is a starchy old thing and we know that starch winds up being sugar, but at least our bodies have to work on this item to break the sugars down in it.

Whole breads and the like are good choices even though they are a starchy sugar food in the long run, overall they take longer to release sugar. So, if you’re going to have bread, you may as well aim for the healthier choice. Of course this doesn’t mean much for everyone’s metabolism as we are all created unequal.
