Before You Buy A Used Car With Your Mom Read This

I was shopping with my mom the other day looking to buy a used Plymouth Voyager. The car salesman was nice, but I felt like he wasn’t giving us the best deal – so I told him we would have to think about it and get back with him. Even if he was offering us his best deal, it’s good to have a price comparison.

I went home and got online to take a look at similar models and compare prices. There are several places you can shop for cars and trucks online. There’s Ebay, Craigslist, several free classified ads sites, and out of town dealerships which may have a website.

I was surprised at what we could save if we drove 60 miles out of town. I rather like the idea of shopping for a car online now. Of course, eventually, this will have to be carried out in real life, but it’s fun browsing without having to waste any gas.

I’m not sure about buying a car from out of state though, because there may be inspection fees that will hike up the overall cost – and, if you’re buying privately…

►Who is responsible for the transfer fees?
►Are there any back taxes owed?
►Will there be any inspection fees?

You should take care and know all the circumstances up front before you go dragging yourself to a remote location to buy your next car.

Nobody is going to sit around and let their mom get ripped off by a car saleman. Take care.
